HOLY CRAP! To everyone out there that voted, congratulations and here is your damn gold star. I mean seriously… I’m so freaking sick of people telling me, begging me, asking me, and hinting that I should vote that I’m never ever going to vote for the rest of my life. If I wasn’t planning on voting before, do you really think your whining is going to make it seem any more interesting to me?
Every blog on the internet seems to be telling people to vote, including blogs that have absolutely nothing to do with politics. Hell, even FreeFlatScreens.com, a site that gives away free TV’s like the free iPod thing, has a message at the top “reminding me” to vote. OMG WHY? Leave me alone!
Sorry for the rant. But you know… what else are blogs good for? :)
P.S. If you sign up for the free flat screen thing using the link above, I’ll vote next time. :P
Posted by derek at November 2, 2004 02:00 PM | TrackBackyou vote so that you can make a difference. It will affect you who wins, so why not be a part of it? You may not have kids now or have to worry about social security at this moment, but you will down the road, and what happens now, paves the road for the future. What if everyone felt like you and just didn’t vote? Then they get pissed off when all hell breaks loose, but it’s no ones fault but their own, because perhaps they could have made a difference if only they had voted. If they didn’t “win” atleast when all hell breaks loose you can say (as the T-shirt reads), “well he’s not my president” :) I didn’t vote because I didn’t register in time, but I wish I had so I could vote for KERRY!!!!!
Posted by: Jenee' at November 2, 2004 02:20 PMWhat the hell? Are you really my wife? Just don’t tell me to vote when I get home. :)
Posted by: Derek at November 2, 2004 02:23 PMreally though, i have no problem with people that want to vote. that’s terrific. but i don’t. and i’m fucking tired of people telling me i should. it’s still a free country, right? and that includes choosing NOT to vote if you don’t freakin’ feel like it.
Posted by: Derek at November 2, 2004 02:24 PMyes derek, that includes choosing not to vote, but being a free country also includes being able to ask people to vote as many times as you want, and to post that message wherever you want. blam!
I agree with jenee completely (except for the whole vote for kerry thing)
I love you derek :)
Posted by: ryan at November 2, 2004 02:38 PMBut I can also bitch about people bitching about people not voting. And write about it on my blog. :P
I’ll vote next time. After I get my free tv I’ll be in a better mood.
Posted by: Derek at November 2, 2004 02:44 PMoh of course you can, I wasn’t trying to imply you couldn’t at all. I’m all about people saying whatever the hell they want to say.
haha…free tv. hells yeah.
Posted by: ryan at November 2, 2004 02:52 PMI bet if you vote for Bush, he’ll send you a free TV! I agree with Ryan agreeing with Jenee’ EXCEPT for the Kerry thing!
Posted by: Dan at November 2, 2004 02:54 PMSilly men & Bush…..oh well. I would prefer Bush, I personally like him better, BUT the head guys are getting old & retiring and are the Democrates (sp?) so that means if Bush is in there and all the guys left are Republicans, it won’t be balanced…I don’t know what the “guys” are, supreme court or something? I don’t know ANYTHING about politics, BUT, the head people that make decisions anyways, for it to be balanced, there are too many of them that will soon be just republican, so to make it even, we need a democrate president. If that makes sense? Other than that, personally, Bush seems much more down to earth and the “common man” that’d I like.
Posted by: Jenee' at November 2, 2004 03:19 PMThat video where Bush gives the camera the bird and laughs about it made me like him a lot.
But Kerry uses a Powerbook…
Hm, choices, choices.
Posted by: Derek at November 2, 2004 03:21 PMJenee, yeah I think your talking about the supreme court, whoever wins this election will get to fill at least 1 of the seats…and that will throw the balance one way or the other. If kerry wins, it will most likely be leaning way left (liberal) which is scary as shit to me…and if bush wins it will obviously be leaning to the right (conservative)…but neither side will actually balance it.
Posted by: ryan at November 2, 2004 03:44 PMoh and I also agree with you about him coming across much more down to earth, he’s just how he is and makes no apologies for it. Kerry on the other hand, becomes whoever he is around.
Posted by: ryan at November 2, 2004 03:45 PMSorry for this, but I for some reason felt compelled to comment on your previous entry “My first experience with Politics” but after writing up a lenthy comment your site tells me no comments allowed on that post. And since I couldn’t find an e-mail link I’m just going to have to hi-jack this thread. At least it’s related. Here it is:
Since I’m reading your site by accident, I feel inclined to comment.
F*ck politics! I think you would find that easy to agree with after watching the debate you mentioned.
Here’s one definition of politics:
“Intrigue or maneuvering within a political unit or group in order to gain control or power: Partisan politics is often an impedement to good government. Office politics are often debilitating and counterproductive.“
That’s about all the “simple information on the topic” that I can give you. But why would you want information on that topic anyway?
The thing to get information about is the issues we as a society are dealing with. The ones you may notice around you everyday. What are the causes of them and what are possible solutions. These certainly aren’t always the ones the media makes an issue.
Maybe that’s what you meant by politics, but to me politics just gets in the way of all that. I don’t think it’s a very simple topic and if you don’t have any concern with it, fine. Good luck with it not affecting you, but the desicions made by these politicians can have a dramatic effect on our lives, and you can probably see that it’s up to us to make sure they don’t mess it up.
Posted by: Mitchell at November 6, 2004 12:36 AMMan, the pains I went through to get that posted (hope it’s not total nonsense). Your site was telling me that it “cannot be posted due to question content: 0n to”* So I had to search for an occurence of “0n to” which there was none. Not as individual words anyway. it was in “obstructi0n to” What the hell is that all about. I had to change it to “impedement to”. Thought you might like to know.
*obviously I had to subsitute a zero for the letter o, cause your site will not let me post a message with the real thing followed by “n to”
i didn’t vote either. if you’re not enthused about either candidate, why bother? one vote isn’t going to make a difference either way. and people are SUCH BUSYBODIES about it. Why do they care if you don’t vote? The less people who vote, the more their vote matters.
