QotD: Comments

Question: What are your thoughts on comment registration, TypeKey, etc.?

My Answer: I’ll probably enable it on my blog… Not that many people post comments on my blog, and I get quite a bit of comment spam so it would be worth it to have people register just to stop the spam I get. Which is almost more than the real comments I get.

I hate having to register to leave a comment on a site because it kills any desire I’d have had to participate. It really sucks that things have had to come to this (damn you, MT Spammers), but do whatever you must to save your sanity. It’s your prerogative.

I’ve never seen any comment spam. On any blogs I’ve been to … is it a big thing now or something?

Yes, very big. There is software out there to spam blogs. very frustrating.

Yeah. Some jerks created a spamming app a few months back that hit the MovableType community hard. A lot of bloggers have been forced to turn off commenting on all but their most recent entries. It’s ridiculous.
