Note to Self: Stop drinking photographic chemicals

After reading an article on one of the chemicals contained in Mountain Dew and other Citrus sodas, I’d really like to try to stop drinking Mountain Dew, or any soda for that matter. However I feel like Fry in the Slurm Factory a lot of the time. Even after he found out that Slurm actually comes directly out of a giant slug’s rearend, he still couldn’t stop drinking it.

So anyway, according to that article Mountain Dew contains Brominated Vegetable Oil, which is used to make dyes, photographic chemicals, gasoline, etc. It’s so toxic that they can only put 1 ounce of it in 5,500 cans of Mountain Dew. Plus it’s permanently stored in the fat cells of your body, you can never get rid of it.

Not to mention all the other health risks associated with sodas like everything mentioned in this article, Liquid Candy.

Drink more water, drink more water, drink more water.

That is extremely nauseating. Ack! Thank goodness I don’t drink Mountain Dew. As for other soft drinks, I think I can do without them. I already drink tons of water, but now I will drink even more.

We drink unhealthy drinks all the time; what’s not made up of carbons, hydrogens, oxygens, and halogens are most of the time made with (horrible-sounding yet harmless with low molarity) metals, and with a high enough concentration of it will ultimately kill us. Of course, no one will really drink enough to kill them in their lifetime (an old article had a list of foods and the amount of which is fatal if consumed - 10 heads of broccoli in a day will, unfortuately kill you). Plus we really can’t say that water is 100% good for you - either filtered, tap or bottled - since they too have certain elements in there that remains off the label.

It appears to me that the author hasn’t been in a chemistry class recently. I bet he would be surprised that most of our body is made with the same material as graphite and diamonds. Or even worse: empty space.

Oh, and I think you might have to fix a few things around, this commentbox has everything amok, probably because of Internet Explorer. If you’d like a screenshot of what I’m talking just hit me up with an e-mail.

Water isn’t pure either, of course, but it is definitely better than a soft drink. And you can’t deny that the phosphor in sodas lowers the calcium in your body, leading to osteoperosis. Plus the highly concentrated sugars that are not included in water.

And I know about the comments and archive pages. It’s not IE, just the face that I haven’t finished those sections yet.
